Woodford Brings Water to Children’s Learning Center Rooftop

Roof hydrants are specified on commercial buildings to provide access to rooftop water used to clean condenser coils, windows, cooling towers, green roofs and other types of rooftop equipment.  When a rooftop hydrant was specified on the Children’s Learning Center in Parker, Colorado, the plumbing contractor chose the Woodford RHY2-MS.

“Choosing the Woodford RHY2-MS was an easy decision.  I’ve installed six of these over the past few years.  I love Woodford products.  They’re reliable and easy to install; total installation time is about one hour plus time to connect the water supply and run the drain.  Once you install the hydrant there’s no maintenance and no worry.”

Because the installation was in Colorado, hydrant freezing was a concern.  The last thing a contractor wants is a leaking hydrant on the roof.  “The Woodford hydrant automatically drains when it’s shut off so there’s no chance of the pipe bursting,” shared the contractor.  The RHY2-MS features a built-in vent that allows automatic draining; this means that there is no need to drain the hydrant for freeze protection, even with a hose attached.

Woodford makes installing the roof hydrant simple.  Its heavy-duty cast iron mounting system can be installed by the roofer or plumbing contractor.  The hydrant can be installed later during the water piping process.  The mounting system secures above and below the roof deck, providing exceptional strength and security which is important when the hose is stretched or pulled, and in potentially harsh rooftop weather conditions.  It comes with a 2-degree shim for pitch adjustment.

Maintenance and repairs are easy with the RHY2-MS.  All repairs can be made from the top of the hydrant without requiring removal of the hydrant.

The Woodford RHY2-MS roof hydrant is backflow protected with and ASSE 1052 double check backflow preventer that is field testable.

Woodford also offers a freezeless sanitary roof hydrant, the SRH-MS, that doesn’t require a drain and a mild climate roof hydrant, the RHMC-MS, for non-freezing environments.

The Colorado plumbing contractor summed up his experience as follows, “I choose Woodford because I don’t want problems.  Woodford products are reliable and my team likes them because they are easiest to install.”
